Your Fears Are Not Real
Some people will read this title and think “Thanks, Captain Obvious”, while others will think “They’re VERY real to ME”.
But fears are clearly a big problem everyone deals with on their path to success.
However, there is a very important detail about fears: there are different types of fear. It’s not just one single type.
One of the types of fears you may experience will be related to your survival being at risk. Let’s call this type “Survival Fears”.
The other types of fears are the ones that cause you anxiety about a potential situation you might end up being in. Let’s call these “Anxiety Fears”.
Why did I distinguish them from each other?
It’s quite simple. And it’s also exactly why this article is titled “Your Fears Are Not Real”.
When you feel a Survival Fear, that would be because maybe there’s a tiger or a crocodile nearby. Maybe it’s a venomous snake or some other thing that genuinely can be considered a potential threat to your life and well-being.
A Survival Fear is always a real fear. Because it is your survival instincts alerting you of TRUE danger. It’s your survival instinct telling you to get the hell out of wherever you are.
In other words, Survival Fears are the only type of fear that you should listen to.
Everything else? Well, that’s a different story.
Anxiety Fears exist 100% in your head and your mind makes you blow everything out of proportion.
It’s almost like a bug (or glitch) that transpired from the need to have Survival Fears.
Back in cavemen’s time, our fears probably always protected us. But nowadays?
How many times have you felt a Survival Fear? Probably not many.
Because most people live such safe lives, about 95% of all the fears they’ve experienced before were just Anxiety Fears.
These are the fears that shouldn’t truly be felt, yet have the power of freezing you and stopping you from continuing.
But really, when you have an Anxiety Fear, what are you fearing exactly?
You’re basically just fearing that there will be a different outcome than the one you desire.
Doesn’t that sound silly?
You know you’ll still be safe, but because there’s a chance that the outcome of your efforts isn’t exactly the one you want, you don’t go ahead and do what you need to do.
That means you’re not going after what you want because you want to avoid emotional discomfort.
You don’t want to feel like a failure, or you don’t want to go through the embarrassment. Maybe you’re afraid people will judge you… Stuff like that.
Just think about that for a second…
You’re telling me you’re not doing everything you can to make your life exactly the life you want to live just because you want to avoid being uncomfortable?
Logically speaking, it’s ridiculous.
I understand this is all your emotions speaking, but you need to be able to think past them.
You need to consciously and logically figure out what you need to do, and then just do it.
EVERYONE (including CEOs, billionaires, actors, singers, etc) has the exact same fears you do.
But those who are successful are simply the people who blocked out the noise of those fears and did what they had to do anyway.
That’s what bravery is anyway. To feel the fear, and to go through it and do what you needed to do, regardless of feeling afraid.
Those who’ve achieved success didn’t allow their fears to control their actions and that is exactly why they’re so successful today.
“Everything you want is on the other side of fear” — Jack Canfield
This is one of the most important quotes I’ve ever read. It’s SO true too.
From this point on, make it your MISSION to live your life always with this quote in the back of your mind.
And allow me to give you my own quote:
Always follow your fears.
Your fears are EXACTLY the direction you need to go towards. When you feel fear about doing something, it’s basically the universe telling you“Yeah, that’s right. Right this way is where you should go”.
But if you allow the fear to paralyze you, you’ll always remain in the same spot.
So make a commitment with yourself and promise yourself to start identifying the kind of fear you feel. If it’s NOT a Survival Fear, then you know exactly what you need to do:
You need to FACE your fear. All of your fears. As soon as possible.
Stop putting it off. The sooner it happens the better.
The moment when you start to face your fears is the moment your life starts to change for the better.
So, get to it right now!
I wish you the best of luck. No matter what happens, just keep going.
As long as you’re life is safe, then you’re also safe to keep going.
