Either Brainwash Yourself Or Get Brainwashed By Others

Photo by Bret Kavanaugh on Unsplash — It’s your brain, take care of what influences it!

To most people, this is a ridiculous idea and their first instinct would be to reject it completely. But if you clicked this article, I’m guessing you’re too open-minded to do that. So, if you will, please bear with me and read on.

First, I’d like to dive deeper into the term “brainwashing”. It’s usually a word associated with negativity because we mostly hear this word in movies or TV shows where some crazy scientist creates some machine that brainwashes humans. But in fiction, brainwashing is usually just wiping out someone’s memories and personality and replacing them with something entirely different. So, you could say it’s a bit of an exaggeration.

In the real world (at least until some real word scientist changes this), brainwashing isn’t as extreme and quick. It’s a slower process that takes place over a long period of time.

Literally everything you see, hear, interact with, or are affected by during the day is essentially influencing or impacting your mind on some level.

And it makes sense too. Our brains are amazing machines and they are ALWAYS interpreting our surroundings. The world constantly gives us feedback and our brain always acknowledges it.

So, we can conclude that by doing nothing and just living life without caring about anything, we are opening ourselves to being brainwashed by whatever surrounds us or by what information we consume.

That’s exactly where the concept of the title comes in. If you are not proactive about it, you WILL be influenced by something or someone. This is why you shouldn’t watch the news (click to read another article of mine about it) and why you should be very careful about the content you consume as well as the people who are closest to you.

Let’s just think about this for a second with an example.

Imagine two twins, one is called Firsto and the other one is called Secondo. They both LOVE music and listen to it for at least 6 hours a day, every day.

Their only difference is their musical taste. Firsto prefers happy music, with awesome horns and an overall HYPE vibe. More importantly, the lyrics of his favorite song are ALL extremely positive. They say things like “I’m a kick-ass motherf*cker, ain’t nobody who can stop me”; “I can do whatever I want, life has no limits”; “I just f*cking LOVE myself”.

Now Secondo, on the other hand, is more into Emo music. The music in itself is great and played by super talented artists, but the lyrics of his favorite song go more like “I love pain, as long as I feel something it doesn’t feel like life’s in vain”; “I seek everlasting love but instead just find everlasting pain”; “I hate myself why can’t I be better”.

Now, if I were to tell you they were both going to do a challenge in which they could ONLY listen to their favorite song for 30 days, do you really think their state of mind and spirit would be similar at the end of it?

I would bet all of my money that Firsto would be super happy and love himself while Secondo would be feeling depressed and terrible about himself.

Is one music genre better than the other? Absolutely not. It’s just about the energy and the content.

We are highly influenceable creatures. When you expose yourself to anything, it WILL influence you on some level. But if you’re barely exposed to it, it’ll influence you about 0.0001% and you’ll be fine. But if you’re CONSTANTLY around it, it will have a MUCH greater influence on your mind, body and soul.

Now, what CAN you do to fight the negative influences?

Just like it says in the title, you need to brainwash yourself.

You need to meditate, visualize and, more importantly, say AFFIRMATIONS. Affirmations are one of the best ways to reprogram your subconscious. If you tell yourself something out loud consistently enough, your subconscious starts to pick up on it and believe in it.

But it’s not just that. CHOOSE what you’re allowing to influence you.

Instead of watching the news, go read a book that can contribute to your happiness or improve your life.

Instead of watching a reality show, go listen to a podcast that will actually bring value into your life.

Instead of hanging out with people who are negative and projecting their self-limiting beliefs onto you, chill out on your own or with people who are more positive.

Instead of binging Netflix, binge a course where you can learn something useful.

Instead of watching a random TV Show you don’t even like because you’re bored, go for a walk.

And instead of listening to the radio, listen to podcasts about mindset and positivity.

It’s YOUR choices that define how you are being influenced on a daily basis.

Keep that in mind while making those choices. All of them count tremendously.

I hope this article can impact at least ONE person out there and I hope that it was you! If it was, feel free to comment!
